Mississippi Fried Oysters

These basic fried oysters are delicious with tartar sauce, remoulade, or a cocktail sauce. Enjoy with fries or use to fill a po' boy.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes Ingredients:

  • raw oysters
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons flour

    Instructions:



    Drain oysters and soak in the beaten eggs. Mix cornmeal, sugar, salt, pepper and flour. Dip oysters in cornmeal mixture and fry in deep shortening (heated to about 370°) until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
