Italian Sausage Patties With Mozzarella Cheese
These easy seasoned sausage patties are coated with bread crumbs and browned, then they're topped with tomato sauce and Mozzarella cheese. Feel free to use bulk turkey sausage in this easy recipe. Serve these sausage patties with hot cooked pasta and a salad.

Ingredients:
- 4 teaspoons olive oil, divided
- 1 pound Italian sausage, pork or turkey
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs
- 2 cups plain tomato sauce
- 3 basil leaves, chopped, or about 1 scant teaspoon dried leaf basil
- 1 pinch dried leaf oregano
- 4 slices part-skim mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
Spray large non-stick skillet with cooking spray and add 2 teaspoons of the
olive oil. Combine sausage with egg; mix lightly.
Sprinkle bread crumbs on shallow plate. Shape about a quarter of the sausage mixture into
flat patty and press into crumbs, lightly coating both sides. Make 3 more
coated patties with remaining meat and crumbs.
Brown patties in skillet
over medium heat for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until nicely browned. Add remaining 2 teaspoons of
oil and turn to brown other side evenly.
Mix tomato sauce with herbs. Top
each pattie with sauce and a slice of mozzarella cheese. Cover the pan and heat until hot and cheese is melted.
Serves 4.
