Cabbage Ground Beef Skillet

This skillet dish is quick and easy to prepare and cook in the skillet. Serve this tasty meal with a salad and fresh baked bread for a fabulous everyday meal.

Total Time: 45 minutes


  • 1 pound ground beef, about 85% to 90% lean
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 head cabbage, coarsely chopped, about 3/4 to 1 pound
  • 1 cup long-grained rice, uncooked
  • 1 large can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 bay leaf


Brown ground beef in skillet, stirring to break up, about 5 minutes or until no longer pink. Add onion, green pepper, cabbage and rice and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes longer. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, and seasonings. Heat to boiling; reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 20 to 25 minutes, or until rice is tender. Add more water as needed.
Serves 4.
