Sausage Gravy

Updated June 30, 2017

Sausage gravy on biscuits.

Use your favorite pork sausage in this easy and tasty recipe for sausage gravy. I like Jimmy Dean brand, but others will work as well. Serve this classic sausage gravy over freshly baked biscuits.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, breaking it up as it cooks. Remove with a slotted spoon to drain, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  2. Add the flour to the drippings left in the skillet and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.
  3. Add 1 cup of the cream to the roux mixture and cook, stirring, until thickened.
  4. Add the sausage back to the mixture along with more cream (enough to make a good gravy consistency). Taste and add salt and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Serve hot over freshly baked split biscuits or grits.
