In large mixing bowl, beat shortening, brown sugar, egg, mashed banana, and vanilla until creamy. Mix flour, salt, and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture; blend well. Stir in oats and raisins. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 15 to 20 minutes.
Makes about 5 to 6 dozen cookies.
