Swiss Steak Dinner

Round steak is a budget friendly choice, and when cooked right, it's delicious. Here's a recipe for round steak cooked with soup, rice, and green beans for a tasty one dish family meal.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 2 hour 20 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours 35 minutes

  • 2 pounds round steak, 1-inch thick
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • dash pepper
  • flour
  • 3 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) condensed tomato soup
  • 1 soup can water
  • 2 cups cooked drained green beans



Instructions:

Season meat and sprinkle with flour; pound lightly with meat mallet. Heat oil and butter in skillet; add onions and brown slowly over medium-low heat. Remove onions; brown meat. Place beef in baking dish; add onions, uncooked rice, and bay leaf. Combine soup and water; pour over casserole. Cover and bake at 350° for 2 hours. Arrange green beans around meat and bake 15 minutes longer.
