Tomato and Cheese Sauce for Pasta

This cheesy tomato sauce makes a hearty and delicious pasta sauce. Serve this sausage sauce on hot cooked spaghetti, linguini, or farfalle.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 35 Minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes

  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrot
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (4 ounces)
  • 1 cup shredded Provolone cheese (4 ounces), or Mozzarella
  • 8 ounces pasta, cooked, rinsed and drained, tossed with butter



    Instructions:

    In skillet cook sausage with onion, garlic, carrot and mushrooms until carrot is tender and meat is browned, about 10 minutes. Drain off any excess grease. Add tomato sauce, water, and Italian seasoning. Simmer, uncovered, for 15 to 20 minutes. Stir in cheeses until sauce is hot and cheese is melted.
    Serve this cheesy tomato and sausage sauce over hot lightly buttered pasta.
