Frosted Brownies

This chocolate brownies are topped with a chocolate fudge frosting. Sprinkle these brownies with chopped pecans or leave them plain.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 25 Minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 8 ounces butter, 2 sticks
  • 4 egg yolks, slightly beaten
  • 4 ounces (4 squares) unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 4 egg whites, beaten until stiff peaks form
Chocolate Frosting
  • 1 stick butter, 4 ounces
  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 box confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • chopped pecans, optional



Instructions:

Put sugar in mixing bowl. Melt chocolate and butter together over low heat, stir until well blended and smooth. Add to sugar; mix well. Add beaten egg yolks; mix well. Add flour and vanilla; mix well. Stir in chopped pecans. Fold in beaten egg whites.
Spread in a 10x15-1-inch greased and floured jelly roll pan. Bake at 325° for 20 to 25 minutes.

Melt butter and chocolate over low heat; stir until smooth then add confectioners' sugar. Heat milk until hot; add to chocolate mixture. Add vanilla; beat until smooth. Spread over cooled brownies and sprinkle with chopped pecans, if desired.
