Red Cabbage Recipe
Red Cabbage with Apple, Apple Jelly, and Red Wine
Red cabbage is cooked with red wine, apple, and spices, for a tasty and tangy side dish.

Cook Time: 12 Minutes
Total Time: 27 minutes
- 2 pounds red cabbage
- 1 apple
- 2 tablespooons butter
- 1 bay leaf
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 to 4 juniper berries, optional
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 to 3 teaspoons apple jelly
- dash ground cloves
Instructions:
Wash and shred cabbage. Slice apple.
Melt butter in a large pan; add cabbage and apple and mix well. Season with salt, pepper, bay leaf, and juniper berries, if using. Cook in 1 cup of water over low heat until done, about 10 minutes. Add a little more water if needed. When liquid has evaporated, sprinkle wiht flour. Add red wine and apple jelly and cloves to taste.
Serves 4.
