Braised Flank Steak
This simmered flank steak is first browned then cooked with a tasty tomato sauce mixture. Serve this delicious flank steak with potatoes or noodles and a garden salad.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour plus 2 tablespoons, divided
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 1/2 teaspoon cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
Instructions:
Cut flank steak into thin strips across the grain (flank steak is easier to cut if partially frozen) and toss the slices with 1/4 cup of flour.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat; brown meat slices and onion in the hot oil. Stir in 2 tablespoons of flour, salt, pepper, and paprika. Add mustard, vinegar, tomato sauce and water; cover and simmer for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the beef is tender.
Serve with buttered noodles, potatoes, or rice.
